As we welcome a new month, Denholm Global Logistics Managing Director, Michael McMahon, reflects on the dynamics of the freight forwarding industry last year and into 2021, investing for the future in challenging times and how collaborative working has helped keep freight moving efficiently, despite the most recent challenges.
“Many will remember 2020 as a tumultuous year in global freight forwarding. Indeed, at Denholm Global Logistics we broke many of our own internal records for the number of containers moved!
Denholm Global Logistics’ volumes remained strong in January but we face the same challenges as many others in our sector in securing space and equipment to meet demand. Port congestion is an added frustration and I anticipate this will persist in the months ahead.
Despite the challenges we have been facing, it is important for us to invest in the future. In June 2020, we strengthened our air freight capabilities and bolstered our established operations by acquiring African Logistics Marketing. In January 2021, we merged the Belfast and Birmingham offices of Hamilton Shipping Container Services into Denholm Global Logistics’ operations and will merge the Dublin office in April. Through this integration, our customers will benefit from a larger scale network and infrastructure, as we now operate 10 Denholm Global Logistics branch offices across the UK and Ireland.
Although Covid-19 has put immense pressure on the global freight forwarding industry, our investment, not only in infrastructure but in the strong professional relationships our teams have forged, has enabled us to support even more customers and manage increasing volumes of freight. I have seen the benefit of true collaborative working among all our stakeholders, including customers and logistics service providers, for which I am immensely grateful, as it has allowed us to keep the freight entrusted to Denholm Global Logistics moving efficiently by sea, air and road. And as a result, our business has grown.
I also make special mention to all Denholm Global Logistics employees across our UK and Ireland branches. Through their unstinting efforts, they continue to support our customers and help keep Denholm Global Logistics trading successfully. Thank you, one and all!”
